What a repair visit costs

The visit pays for an hour of expert fault-finding. It isn’t a fixed price for the whole repair.

Diagnostic visit, including the first hour on site £120
Parts needed for the repair Quoted before we order or fit
Return visit to fit the parts Fixed price, quoted with the parts

Prices include VAT. You’ll always know the cost of the repair before we do it. Our engineers work Monday to Thursday 8am–5pm and Friday 8am–4pm.

What to expect from your repair

We’d rather be upfront than promise a fix we can’t guarantee.

1. We find the fault

Your first visit

An error code is a starting point, not an answer. Most codes point to one of several possible parts, so our engineer tests the boiler properly to find which one has actually failed.

  • Full diagnosis by a Gas Safe engineer
  • Your options explained in plain English
  • Made safe if there’s a danger

2. We get the right part

If it’s not on the van

There are thousands of different boiler parts, so no engineer can carry them all. We carry the most common ones. Others are ordered against your boiler’s GC number and serial number, as even the same model can need different parts depending on when it was made.

  • Common parts carried on the van
  • Exact part ordered for your boiler
  • Usually a day or two, sometimes longer

3. We fix it

Same visit or a return visit

If we have the part with us, we can often fix it on the first visit. If not, we send you a fixed-price quote for the part and the return visit to fit it, and book you in once you’ve approved it.

  • No work without your approval
  • Repair tested and checked
  • Honest advice if it isn’t worth fixing

Not urgent? Send us the details first

Tell us what’s happening and send a few photos, including the boiler’s data badge. We’ll ask any questions, check which parts are likely to be needed and aim to arrive with them, which can save you a second visit.

Please include the data badge (a sticker under the boiler or behind the front panel showing the model, GC number and serial number), the display or fault code, and anything leaking or damaged.

The most common call we get

Repair or replace?

Most faults are worth repairing. But if your boiler is over 12–15 years old, keeps breaking down or parts are hard to get, a new boiler may save you money.

Our engineers fit boilers as well as fix them, so we’ll give you an honest view either way. Use our instant new boiler estimate to compare.

Boiler repair FAQs

Answers to the questions we’re asked most.

How much does a boiler repair cost?

The diagnostic visit is £120 including VAT and covers the first hour on site. If parts are needed, we give you a fixed price for the parts and any return visit before going ahead, so you always know the cost of the repair first.

Will you fix my boiler on the first visit?

Often, if we have the part with us. Many faults need a specific part ordered for your boiler, so we diagnose the fault, give you a fixed price for the repair and come back to fit the part. Sending us the details and photos first, using the form on this page, gives us the best chance of bringing the right part.

Why can’t you just bring the part for my fault code?

Most fault codes can be caused by several different parts, so the boiler has to be tested to find the real cause. Parts also vary between versions of the same boiler, so we order against its GC number and serial number to get the right one.

What is a GC number?

A seven-digit number that identifies your exact boiler model. It’s on the data badge, usually under the boiler or behind the front panel. A photo of the badge in the form on this page helps us a lot.

Can you come today?

Book online to see our earliest slot, or call 01223 652 740 if you have no heating or hot water and we’ll do our best to fit you in. Our engineers work Monday to Thursday 8am–5pm and Friday 8am–4pm.

Which boilers do you repair?

All makes and models of domestic mains gas and LPG boilers.

Is it worth repairing an old boiler?

Often, yes. If it isn’t, we’ll explain why and give you a quote for a replacement.

What happens if you find something unsafe?

As Gas Safe engineers we must follow the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations. If an appliance is At Risk or Immediately Dangerous, we label it “Danger Do Not Use”, email you a gas warning notice and, with your permission, turn it off or disconnect it until it’s repaired. If the fault is on the gas meter, the gas emergency service (Cadent, 0800 111 999) needs to attend. The booked visit is still charged, and we quote for any repair. Read our full unsafe situations procedure.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Turn off the gas at the meter if it is safe to do so, open windows, don’t use switches, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
