Power Flushing & Chemical Flushing

Power Flushing

Is carried out by using a powerful machine to pump water through the system at high pressure, combined with special cleaning chemicals to break down the debris. The water is then flushed out, taking the contaminants with it, leaving the system clean and fully operational.

Power flushing is not suitable for micro-bore pipework.

Chemical Flushing

Involves adding a chemical cleaning solution to the heating system and allowing it to circulate through the pipes and radiators for a set period. The chemicals work to loosen and dissolve the sludge and limescale buildup. Once the system is thoroughly cleaned, the chemicals are flushed out, and the system is refilled with clean water.

This is much less aggressive than power flushing and is ideal for smaller bore pipework or very old pipework that may not be able to handle the higher pressures of power flushing.

If you have only light to moderate sludge build up, a microbore system, or an old or weakened system then you should consider chemical flushing. Chemical flushing is generally cheaper and does not add the same ammount of strain to the system.

Which one do I need?

We generally reserve power flushing for very dirty systems where there are clearly cold spots on the radiators or pipes that are completely blocked.

Chemical flushing does a great job and is more cost effective, it does require some circulation around all parts of the system though so only partial blockages can be cleaned.
