Smart thermostats

Smart thermostats let you connect your heating system to the internet.

At their most basic level, smart thermostats will let you set up a schedule for when your heating comes on and turns off, and the temperature. Yet because they’re connected to the internet, they let you vary this schedule remotely.

This allows you to turn the heating on or off at will, or change the temperature via a smartphone app.

You need an internet connection to use them of course, but seeing as you’re reading this online, we’ll go ahead and assume you do.

0% VAT on Energy Saving Measures

Yes, smart thermostats and their installation may be eligible for a 0% VAT rate under the UK’s energy-saving materials scheme. The scheme, which started on April 1, 2022, and runs until March 31, 2027, aims to incentivise energy efficiency measures in homes.

The relief is for the supply and installation of energy saving measures, if the smart control was part of a larger job (such as a boiler installation) the standard rate would apply.
If the smart thermostat was supplied and installed on it’s own or with other energy saving measures like a heat pump, then the 0% rate is applicable. See Gov.co.uk for full details.

What Brand is Best?

We install all brands of smart thermostats, which one you choose will depend on the level of control you would like, the aesthetics of the unit, it’s features, and the installation options.

Some smart thermostats require hard wiring or to be plugged in to a socket (Nest, Honeywell Evohome).

Others are battery operated (Hive, Tado, Drayton Wiser).

Running a cable or having the unit plugged in can be off-putting to consumers.

Smart Radiator Valves

Smart radiator valves are devices that allow you to control the flow of water to individual radiators in your home remotely.

This can be done via a smartphone app, smart home system, or even manually.

They offer enhanced energy efficiency, comfort, and convenience compared to traditional radiator valves.
