Energy Efficiency of up to 500%
Air conditioning can be extremely efficient, often producing 3-5 times more heat (or cooling) for the electrical energy they consume.
This is measured using the Coefficient of Performance (COP) for heating and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) for cooling. For example, a COP of 5 means 5kW of heat is produced for every 1kW of electricity used

Air Conditioning FAQ’s
How does Air Conditioning work?
It works in principle by removing unwanted heat from one area and replacing it with chilled dry air. A chemical refrigerant in the system absorbs the heat and carries it to the outside where it is expelled as hot air. It also works in reverse to provide heating.
What does kw mean?
It means kilowatt. This is the unit of measurement air conditioning units are sized by. The higher the kW, the higher the cooling and heating power it has, meaning usually higher kWs is needed for bigger, warmer rooms.
What size air conditioner do i need?
The size of the unit you need is dependent mainly on the size of the room, though there are some other considerations like how much sunlight the room gets.
What do I get when I have air conditioning installed by Cambs Heating
You will receive your indoor unit, outdoor unit, and a remote as standard, and then any extra bits you need depending on what you answered while using our online estimate, such as a specialist wall bracket etc.
Can I have air conditioning installed in my conservatory?
Yes, you can.
Can I fit air conditioning myself?
We do not sell air conditioning without installation included. You need an F-Gas qualified engineer to fit your air conditioning unit, which is why installation comes as standard with all our packages.
Can I heat my house using air conditioning?
Yes, you can. All the air conditioning units we sell come with the ability to heat, as well as cool.
Do I have to have the outdoor unit for air conditioning?
Yes, you do need the outdoor unit for the indoor unit to work.
Where can I have the outdoor unit fitted?
You can have the outdoor unit fitted anywhere on your property, as long as the location meets the following criteria:
- There is at least 1 metre clearance around the where the unit will be, e.g. no other walls, fences etc
- You have the freeholders permission to have the unit placed there
Also, if you have vegetation within a metre of the outdoor unit, the heat from the unit may cause the vegetation to die off.
We suggest having your outdoor unit floor mounted, on the same wall as where the indoor unit is, if possible.
How long will it take to install my air conditioning?
Installations typically take between 1 – 3 days depending on the number of units being installed.
Do I need planning permission?
For most standard, domestic air conditioning installations, you likely won’t need planning permission. However, it’s always best to check with your local planning authority to ensure you comply with all relevant regulations.
Do I need any other permission?
Yes, from the freeholder of the building or land. Having air conditioning installed requires units being fitted to your indoor and outdoor walls, which requires permission from the freeholder. We do not check this at the point of purchase, so it is your responsibility to ensure you have permission before your installation.
